Robert and Julie witness the metamorphosis of Elizabeth in the cave. She falls out of the 'cocoon' and they wrap her in a coat and take her home.
Diana arrives at one of the motherships and is informed that the home world is barren now, and they desperately need Earth to survive. She orders an attack on Earth, believing the red dust is gone.
At Robert's place, Elizabeth has jumped ten years in age. She seems unable to talk and is typically afraid of the change she has gone through. Walking to the window, she drops a photo frame she is holding and Julie becomes aware that a Visitor skyfighter has arrived. The visitors almost capture them but are finally effected by the red dust. Julie discovers a photo of young Elizabeth on one of the dead Visitors.
Diana receives reports from Earth showing losses from the red dust that she thought was gone, and successes in other areas. She theorizes that that warm climate zones destroy the red dust bacteria.
A devastating attack on Earth is led by Diana. Back at the Club Creole, Robert, Julie and Elizabeth show up. Willie recognizes the older Elizabeth right away due to the mark of Xon on her hand.
Diana arrives at Science Frontiers. She threatens to kill Nathan Bates but he informs her if he dies his pulsometer sends a frequency to explosives to release red dust back into the world. Diana deals with Bates for the return of the mothership.
Julie is astonished that Nathan wouldn't just release the dust. He explains that the dust isn't harmless to life on earth after all.
Elias takes Elizabeth and Robert to a secret basement in the Creole. Visitors arrive and are about to take Elias but Ham and Donovan arrive and take the Visitors out instead. Nathan Bates announces over television that he has declared Los Angeles to be a "free city" where neither side will bear arms.
Diana has ordered a Visitor weapon, the Triax, to arrive so she can destroy Nathan Bates and his city. She tests the Triax on a moon of Jupiter, and it vaporizes the moon completely.
Julie convinces Nathan to divert Security elsewhere from the mothership, but at the cost of her having to attend the ceremony.
The Resistance arrive at the site of the mothership, and find that good to Julie's word, the security is practically gone from mothership. They get aboard while the ceremony begins and the Triax arrives in orbit. Elizabeth starts the reactor on the mothership, and as they begin lift off procedures, a guard shoots Robert. The fusion drive comes online, and the guards scatter. They lift off and sight the Triax. Robert suggests ramming it with the mothership. Donovan states he will pilot it, but Robert tells them he's dying and convinces them to leave. The Resistance leaves the ship, and Robert rams the Triax with the mothership.
Later, Willie and Elizabeth have a ceremony for the departure of Robert, Julie tells her how beautiful it was... but Elizabeth is distraught and holds a picture of Robin and cries.
On her way home, Robin sees Visitors ahead on the road so she gets out of the car and runs into the woods...
